Nugent linked with Pool move

DAVID Nugent is the latest striker to be linked with a move to Blackpool, while a deal for DJ Campbell is gathering pace.

Ian Holloway has six to eight other targets in his sights ahead of tomorrow's 5pm transfer deadline – Wycombe's 19-year-old winger Matt Phillips is reported to be among them – and will do his best to land as many as possible.

The manager was at Bloomfield Road yesterday, along with secretary Matt Williams and Karl Oyston, to work on deals.

Portsmouth frontman Nugent was on loan at Burnley last season and has plenty of top-flight experience.

With relegated Pompey struggling in the Championship, and Nugent one of the bigger earners at the club, Pool would appear to have a chance of signing him.

The 25-year-old hails from Merseyside and started his career at Bury before moving on to Preston, where he was capped by – and scored for – England.

Portsmouth paid 6m for Nugent's services two years ago and are unlikely to let him go on the cheap, which means a loan move is most likely.

Campbell remains Holloway's top target. The chase for the Leicester frontman has been drawn out, with the clubs haggling all summer over a fee.

He was left out of the Foxes' 18-man squad for Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Reading and manager Paulo Sousa has confirmed the club has accepted a bid for the 28-year-old.

He won't confirm that bid is from Blackpool, but it would be a major surprise if the deal wasn't completed in the next 24 hours.
