North Stand could become away end

It has been announced that the north stand at Bloomfield Road – which has housed Seasiders fans for the last six seasons – could be an away stand next year.

When the south stand is opened, probably for the first home game of the 2008-09 season, it will be for home supporters.

The north stand will continue to house home supporters too, with the east stand for visiting supporters.

However, when away teams bring more than the 2,000 the east stand can hold, the club will use the north stand to house away fans.

That will mark a big change as the north end of the ground is traditionally the domain of the noisy home supporters, including the Seasiders drummers.

Demand

"It is the club's intention that the south stand be used for home fans and, preferably, that the away fans will remain in the east stand", explained chairman Karl Oyston.

"Of course, if there is demand, we will consider housing away fans in the north stand.

"So in the event that home demand is insufficient, both the east and north stand will be used for away fans."

Work is under way on the south and south west corner stands, with the steel framework and the stand will take shape from November onwards.

Oyston said it was the club's intention to provide a sports bar/ supporters bar within the 3.5m south stand.

He added: "The south stand concourse will also be at least twice as big as the concourses in the north and west stands.

"This is due in part to new concourse regulations, along with the club's desire to create better facilities for supporters."

Oyston added: "The club is also in preliminary talks with the council regarding provision of up to three new areas along the west stand fronting phase two of the central corridor regeneration."
