National bronze is Rowe's big reward

Wesham Road Runners Alex Rowe won a national bronze medal in the M50 1500m in the British Masters Track & Field Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

In last Saturday's tactical race he snatched 3rd place in the final 20 metres, clocking 4.36.78. He didn't fare so well in his other events finishing the M50 5000m 4th in 16:44.25, and the 800m 7th in 2:20.65.

The Tockholes Fell Race took place on Saturday afternoon over the 5.8 mile course with a big climb up past Darwen Tower and over to the Roddlesworth woods with 1250ft of climb. Charlie Pass was in fine form coming runner up in 8 seconds adrift with 42:07 of winner Richard Burney.

Other times and placings: Alex Rowe 8th with45.15. Steve Myerscough 14th with 46.38. Chris Whitlock 48th with 59.18. Nigel Shepherd was 51st in 59.33. Kath Hoyer was 7th woman and 5th Over-40, 58th overall in 59.48. George Kennedy 74th in 61.33. John Sharples 79th with 62.06.

Sarah Sherratt 14th woman and 85th in 62.55. Graham Vickers 88th in 63.20. Bernadette Dickinson 17th and 103rd in 68.25. Julie Cruse 18th and 104th with 68.26.

At the 5.6m Harrock Hill Race which has a 800ft climb with Richard Davies leading the way for Wesham 37.30 finishing 2nd M50 and 14th overall. Mick Edge coming in 29th in 40.02. With Chris Whitlock 41st in 41.10. Carmel Sullivan was 3rd woman and 2nd W40 in 41.15, 42nd overal.

while Michaela Dempsey was 7th woman and 3rd W40, 57th overall in 43.40. Sarah Sherratt was 16th woman and 83rd in 47:33. Shaun Turner 94th with 50:38, and Bernadette Dickinson 96th in 50:53.

Barry Norman finished 3rd in the hilly 4-mile Caldervale Supper Run on Wednesday evening, running 21.32. Steve Myerscough (pictured) was 6th with 22.46. Graham Cunliffe 9th in 24.11, 2nd M50. Daniel Whitlock came in 11th with 24.43, holding off his father Chris by 15 seconds as the elder finished 12th with 24.58. Martin Bates was 14th in 26.19. Sarah Sherratt was 3rd woman and 2nd W35, 18th in 27.07. Barry Edwards 30th in 29.39; and Dave Jones 51st and 2nd M60 in 35.01.

Dave Waywell finished 1st M65 in the Northern Veterans Monthly Run at Radcliffe on Sunday in aid of the St Ann's Hospice, running the 2-lap 10k trail course in 40.53. Kath Hoyer was first lady in 44.41.

Michaela Dempsey ran the very challenging Lune Valley & Howgills 10-mile road race, finishing 7th woman and first veteran. Dave Preston took on the Shifnal Steeplechase Half Marathon in StaffordLionel Gowland visited the Esholt Bash rail race in Guiseley, finishing 35th and 2nd M50 just 8 seconds behind the M50 winner, running the 10 kilometres in 49.32.
