Lytham are geared up for a tough run-in

As Wimbledon heads towards an exciting finale, tennis on the Fylde is halfway through its match season.

At Lytham, now the only grass courts club, the ladies' first team are poised halfway up division one of the Bruce Garner Fylde League and facing a challenging few fixtures.

Dorothy Barrett, Sue Grindrod, Alison Maguire and Sally Muschamp face the top three clubs in their next matches starting with leaders Goosnargh on Thursday July 9.

Coast leaders Moorlands, of Poulton, are next in line for Lytham along with Penwortham. In division two of the ladies, Wrea Green are halfway followed by Lytham A, then St Annes and Moorlands A.

In the men's divisions, St Annes first team are separated from leaders Penwortham by a point, though the Preston team have a game in hand.

St Annes, captained by injury-troubled Clive Parkinson, face three more fixtures before a possibly decisive final at Avondale Road to Penwortham on Thursday, July 30. Nick Nelson's St Annes A are meanwhile struggling with only three points.

In division two, Lytham men's first team have eight points with seven games in hand and are above Fulwood and Moorlands.

In division three, headed by St Annes, Wrea Green and Hambleton are performing well, while South Shore and Norbreck compete at the bottom with five and four points, respectively, though Norbreck have a fixture in hand.
