LEADERS Lytham Ladies maintained their 100 per cent record in hockey’s Lancashire Central premier division season with a 9-1 victory over Clitheroe Seconds.
Captain Danielle Bamber opened the scoring from a penalty corner and set up Gemma Trickett for the second.
Clitheroe pulled a goal back only for Alix Townsend to score from long range before Sophia Crawshay made it 4-1 at half-time.
Lytham continued to dominate as Trickett and Crawshay both scored a second. There were two for fellow attacker Bronte Edgar as well and Charlotte Evans scored from the top of the area. It sets Lytham up perfectly for Saturday’s visit to second-placed Morecambe title which could have a major bearing on the title.
Lytham Seconds lost 2-1 to Southport’s senior side, despite solid defending from Vicki Nickson.
Some strong running by Heidi Whitehead paved the way for Gilly Shields’ fiercely-struck equaliser, but Southport scored the winner on the break.
A young Lytham Thirds side showed their class to beat Lancaster Nomads 3-1 in division two, scoring all their goals in the second half.
