St Annes had Lewis Evans to thank as his late goal settled a thrilling game against FC Rangers.

His strike seven minutes from time earned a 4-3 win for Simon Howell’s side in the under-18s clash at Boundary Park.

St Annes looked to be cruising when two Callum Stanley strikes gave the away side a two-goal lead, the second a sensational strike into the top corner.

Kieran Clark fired FC Rangers back into the game before Josh Halstead looked to have put the game out of reach when he restored St Annes’ two-goal lead.

But to the credit of Rangers, they weren’t to lie down and superb goalkeeping from Ryan Faulkner and a couple of bounces off the woodwork kept them at bay.

They did eventually find a breakthrough, when Danny Roskell and Ryan Wallace drew the game level and set up a thrilling finish, but it was St Annes who would show character to win it.

Evans raced in from the left-hand side to finish superbly and hand his side the points. Keeper Faulkner picked up the man of the match award for his superb display.
