Kirkham girls in runaway victory
KIRKHAM Grammar School recorded their first ever clean sweep in the girls' Wyre and Fylde Athletics Championships at Stanley Park.
KGS finished first in all four age categories – under-13, 14, 15 and 17 – having won three last year.
It was no surprise that they were crowned overall champions, with Arnold School second and King Edward VII and Queen Mary's third.
Over 400 girls represented 13 schools in an exciting day of track and field action.
Kirkham had 14 individual winners, including five in the under-13 and under-14 categories. Under-13 Kate Lawlor won both the 150m and 800m.
The school has had its best ever athletics season, winning both the Junior and Inter Girls Lancashire County Rounds of the English Schools Cup.
The junior team won the North A final of the English Schools Cup and qualified for the Sainsbury's English Schools Track and Field Cup Final in north London on Saturday.
