Kirkham Grammar School is celebrating probably its best hockey season of all time.
Not only have the girls been crowned Lancashire Champions in all age groups, but they have all reached the England Hockey North Finals as well.
A proud Lindsey Osborne, Head of Girls Sport, said: “The results from all matches have been excellent from our U11 squad at Kirkham Grammar Junior School straight through to our U18 squad.”
Further achievements include their victory in the U18 Austin Friar’s Sevens and the senior team winning all three matches on their tour of Barbados.
With KGS securing trophy after trophy, perhaps their greatest success story is that of Rachael Greenwood, who is now playing for England.
Rachael said: “I think it will always be one of my greatest achievements and I am over the moon to have got this far. I feel all my hard work has paid off and I couldn’t be happier!”
Kirkham Junior Girls U11 side became Lancashire Champions after 5-0 and 2-0 wins over Rossall and AKS respectively. Kirkham Junior Boys U11s also secured their title against Rossall following a resounding 6-0 victory.
In the U12 category, KGS A defeated AKS, Baines, Rossall and Lytham on their way to being crowned champions. KGS B team were third in their section.
The U13 side finished joint-champions of Lancashire with AKS after drawing on points.
The result means both sides moved onto the regional finals, in which victories over Altrincham, St. Edwards College and Tapton meant KGS finished in third place on goal difference.
Brilliant wins against Lytham, AKS, Southlands, Stonyhurst and Baines meant that the U14s also won their respective Lancashire title.
Kirkham’s U15 team were crowned Lancashire champions at Blackpool’s Stanley Park as they finished their season in style.
Following victories against Lytham and Ripley St Thomas and a draw with Lancaster, the girls needed only a draw in their final game against AKS and managed to secure a 0-0 result to take the title
Kirkham’s U16 side were crowned county champions and progressed to the regional finals at Timperley, where they were also victorious.
KGS’ U18 side excelled once again as they netted eight goals in three games against AKS, Rossall and Stonyhurst without conceding as they charged to the county title. They finished second in the regional finals to qualify for the North finals in Leeds, finishing fourth in that tournament.
The girls won the Austin Friar’s Invitational Tournament following a superb 1-0 victory over Sedbergh in the final.
