Kingscote high fives

THE last home show of the season promoted by Blackpool Kingscote Amateur Boxing Club produced five wins out of seven for the home fighters.

Sam Webster turned on his best showing so far with a points victory against Runcorn's highly touted Jake Whittingham.

After a quiet first round and some stern words in the corner, Webster came out all guns blazing in the second and third rounds, forcing a standing count on the way.

His performance earned him the best boxer of the night trophy.

Scott Moran beat Steve Backhouse (Broughton) for the fourth time,

He produced an excellent last round buckling Backhouse's legs with two terrific right hands, just before the final bell, which saw him secure a points win.

Ronnie Langton just missed out on the best boxer award, but produced a fine display against Newbury and Farnworth's Jack Cullen.

He also inflicted a standing count on his opponent before securing a points win.

Ryan Fletcher's boxing skills got the better of Sham Khan.

Fletcher was always in control but Khan made him work to the end for a points win.

Ed Mansell won on his his debut against Macclesfield's Jack Rawlins, again on points,

Coach Anthony Moran said: "Ed is very raw and has only been in the gym a few months so he can be pleased with his night's work."

Kingscote schoolboy Jamie Houghton showed some commendable skills against Warrington's Jake Jameson, but lost a majority points decision.

Craig Sumner also lost a majority decision against Ambleside's Dayle Saint, whom he had previously beaten.

There will be a rematch on a Kirkham club show on May 27 at Layton Institute.

Kingscote's record this season is 23 wins and 11 defeats.

Moran said: "All concerned at the club can be proud of the effort they have put in."

Training at the club will continue during summer and starts again in early September.
