Jelgava 2 Blackpool 1 - minute-by-minute

A BRETT Ormerod header wasn't enough to earn Blackpool a draw against Latvian side Jelgava.

Ormerod nodded home a superb DJ Campbell cross after goals from Alegs Malasenoks and Vladislavs Koslous had given Jelgava a 2-0 lead at the break.

Campbell lasted the full 90 minutes in an otherwise second string side which was missing six first team regulars.

Matt Phillips, who signed on Tuesday impressed in the first half before behind withdrawn at the break.

The game saw the official opening of Jelgava's new Olympic Stadium and was played in front of a sell-out crowd.

Minute-by-minute:

FULL-TIME: JELGAVA 2 BLACKPOOL 1

88 mins: Ash Eastham blasts a decent chance high and wide from 18 yards. It's almost pitch black here now.

82 mins: Liam Tomsett and Tom Barkhuizen come on to replace Jason Euell and Chris Basham. A good chance for the young pair to get a first team run-out.

81 mins: It's all out attack now for Blackpool who look desperate to get at least a draw here. Leaving huge gaps at the back though.

77 mins: Crowd announced as a 1,783 sell-out.

75 mins: Ishmel Demontagnac should have put Blackpool level a moment ago after he raced onto a Brett Ormerod pass. Sadly he slotted his effort just wide.

73 mins: A local journalist has just turned to us and said, 'Blackpool are terrible at defending, why?'. It appears the locals are less than impressed.

JELGAVA 2 BLACKPOOL 1

67 mins: GOAL FOR BLACKPOOL. Brett Ormerod heads in from a yard after superb work by DJ Campbell. The striker, who signed on Tuesday, raced away from the back four before chipping the ball over the keeper into the path of Brett Ormerod.

60 mins: Not much happening on the pitch sadly. Although it's getting darker and darker here, there's no floodlights and the lightening has just started. From the Emirates to this....

57 mins: Ian Evatt is booked for something he said to the referee. I'm not sure what language he said it in though!

56 mins: I don't want to keep going on about the weather, but it's raining that hard that we are even getting wet right at the back of the stand in the press box!

53 mins: The rain remains to pour down here in Jelvega. One concern is that it seems to be getting dark here....and there are no floodlights!

46 mins: Pool made four changes at the break. Ishmel Demontagnac, Luke Varney, Stephen Husband and Brett Ormerod replaced Elliot Grandin, Matt Phillips, Ludovic Sylvestre and Danny Coid.

45 mins: Jelgava kick-off the second half.

Half-time: We are being treated to some different entertainment here at the break. Around 200 kids have just ran onto the pitch wearing white boiler suits and are now dancing. There's none of this in the Premier League.

HALF-TIME JELGAVA 2 BLACKPOOL 0

43 mins: I feel a bit sorry for the three Pool fans that have made the trip today. It's not been the best of games for Ian Holloway's men so far.

42 mins: Ian Evatt heads over from a deep Danny Coid cross.

41 mins: Stephen Crainey comes on to replace Rob Edwards. Looks to be limping but doesn't appear serious.

38 mins: Jason Euell fires over from 20 yards. Difficult chance really.

JELGAVA 2 BLACKPOOL 0

32 mins: GOAL FOR JELGAVA. Totally against the run of play the home side double their lead and send the sell-out crowd wild. This time Alegs Malasenoks beat Blackpool's offside trap before cooly lifting the ball over Halstead.

31 mins: Matt Phillips forces a decent save out of the Jelgava keeper after a good left-wing cross by Danny Coid.

27 mins: Another effort on goal for Blackpool. This time Elliot Grandin fired at the Jelgava keeper after a good ball from Chris Basham.

24 mins: A good spell for the Seasiders. DJ again going close with a neat flick from a corner.

23 mins: DJ Campbell almost got Pool back on level terms. Only a superb goal line block preventing a goal after the million pound man had rounded the keeper.

22 mins: Loads of the ball for Blackpool, but no real threat in the final third just yet.

15 mins: Have to say that you can see that the Pool squad have much more important things on their minds than this game today. Half-hearted to say the least. And who can blame them.

JELGAVA 1 BLACKPOOL 0

13 mins: GOAL FOR JELGAVA. Horrible moment for Mark Halstead allows Vladislavs Koslous to tap into an empty net. Halstead went to side foot a backpass to Ash Eastham but played it straight into the path of the Jelgava striker.

10 mins: Would like to see the possession stats so far, it's been all Blackpool so far.

8 mins: First chance of the game falls to the Seasiders. DJ Campbell glancing a long Ian Evatt ball straight at the keeper. Good to see DJ back.

7 mins: After a mainly dry day here in Latvia the heavens have opened here and it's pouring down.

5 mins: Good start by new boy Matty Phillips. Looks strong, quick and direct.

1 mins: Pool kick-off. Interesting crowd here today. There's a group of supporters signing away with a drum, I'm sure I heard them say something about Blackpool!

Team news: Halstead, Eastham, Edwards, Evatt, Coid, Basham, Sylvestre, Grandin, Campbell, Euell and Phillips.

Pre-match: There are three Pool fans here today, a fantastic effort by them to make it over here.

Pre-match: Pool's players are out to warm-up, there's a brass band playing and the stand is already full.

Pre-match: We've just arrived at the ground and now realise what a big deal this game is to the local people here in Jelgava. The President of Latvia will be attending tonight.
