Hero-to-zero Hoolahan is finding it hard
WES Hoolahan was undroppable at Blackpool.
That's not been the case at his new club.
Despite making a high-profile switch to Norwich in the summer, the left winger has already found himself axed from the starting 11 and having to make do with a few minutes from the bench.
As a result he's lost his place in the Republic of Ireland squad too.
However, far from being down in the dumps, the 25-year-old – a sub for the last four games – insists he is relishing the competition at Carrow Road and is eager to show what he can do.
"I'm happy enough, although I think I can play a lot better," said Hoolahan, whose new club are fourth-bottom of the Championship.
"I'm still just settling in and it takes time for things to happen, so hopefully by the next couple of games things will start happening.
"It's a squad game and if I am on the bench I will just be glad to get on and contribute to winning the game. Hopefully I will play my part for the rest of the season. Norwich City is a huge club. There are a lot of fantastic players here and it is a step up from Blackpool.
"I've got to adjust to that and hopefully by next year we'll be hopeful of the play-offs.
"I love a bit of competition. I think it makes you a better player, so I am enjoying that."
From one winger to another, and well done to Simon Wiles, who is enjoying life north of the border far more than he did on this side.
The 23-year-old has been making quite a name for himself at Dunfermline since joining on a one-year deal last month.
Wiles' best moment to date came when he scored in a Scottish League Cup victory over SPL outfit St Mirren.
"It' had been quite a while since I scored, so it was great to get a goal," said Wiles, whose side face Dundee United in the next round.
"I just came up here to play football and it's great to be doing that."
It was his first goal since netting for the Seasiders on Boxing Day 2005 at Port Vale.
