The number nine was joined on the scoresheet by the impressive Bradley Evans, who bagged a brace, with further strikes from Daniel Eddleston and Daniel Gray.

FC Rangers went ahead on five minutes through Wylie but were pegged back almost immediately by Layton.

Jamie Borrino’s free-kick resulted in a scramble and Reece Deary got final touch to equalise.

Eddleston restored his side’s lead with a long-range effort that the Layton keeper will feel he should have done better with, though he went on to produce a number of impressive stops.

We always look forward to playing Layton and they impressed me in the first half, but in the second half I thought our strength showed through

The score remained at 2-1 until early in the second period, when Wylie’s second was worth the wait. The striker lobbed the keeper from fully 30 yards for what was the pick of the goals.

Full-back Gray was on target when his shot went under the keeper and found the bottom corner.

Wylie notched his third five minutes later before Evans bagged two in quick succession to send FC Rangers into seventh heaven.

Layton were able to take positives from the game as the team continues to gel and improve, with several new players to integrate.
