BLACKPOOL North Shore’s Ryan Anderson has earned a call-up by Lancashire to compete in the four counties junior tournament, which takes place at Crewe Golf Club on April 19 to 21.
And the man who coaches him, North Shore professional Andrew Richardson, says the honour is thoroughly deserved.
He said of the selection: “It is overdue as far as I am concerned.
“Ryan has great potential and he has a very good all-round game.
“All he needs to do now is to play in as many big national events as he can so that he can gain the kind of experience he needs.”
The selection is due reward for the improvement the teenager has shown to his game.
Richardson said: “Ryan’s handicap has come down from four to two only in the space of 12 months.
“When you get down to single figures, the more difficult it is to reduce your handicap, but Ryan has done that.”
Anderson will be joined in the Lancashire ranks at Crewe by Luke Moon and Sami Proctor-Bouzabia (Preston) Sean Blinkhorn (Leigh) James Bolton and Paul Kinnear (Formby) Zain Wild (Hillside) and Louis Tomlinson (Haydock).
Anderson’s talent has also been recognised by the senior team selectors.
He is in the Lancashire B team that travels to Grange Over Sands on April 2 to take on Cumbria B.
Henry Tomlinson, from Royal Lytham and St Annes, is in that side, as is Tom Stuart (St Annes Old Links).
Tomlinson also features in the Rest Of Lancashire squad to face Southport and District Golf Association at Southport Old Links on March 27, as well as the Rest line-up for the clash with Bolton Golf Association on April 9 at Chorley.
Stuart and Tomlinson are in for a busy time, as they play for Lancashire B against Cheshire B at North Manchester on April 17.
The full Lancashire side face Lancashire Ladies in a friendly on April 10 at Hesketh.
Lancashire will be unable to call on the services of Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Nixon in 2011 as the outstanding duo have turned professional since last season.
The flagship event of the Lancashire Union Of Golf Clubs season, the County Championship, takes place on June 3 and 5 at Manchester.
North Shore hosts the Lancashire under-16 boys’ championship on July 18.
