The moment of truth is beckoning for the four semi-finalists in The Gazette/Blacktax Mathchplay tournament.
They are off to Portugal tomorrow, then the semi-finals will take place on the Millennium Course in Vilamoura on Friday prior to the grand decider on the Old Course on Saturday.
Those who have made it through are De Vere Herons Reach duo Brad Sarjantson and Mike Attan, Lytham Green Drive’s Julian Wilson and Poulton’s Warren Beardsmore.
Staining-based Sarjantson will be hoping to come out on top after making it to Portugal 12 months ago, but going out at the semi-final stage.
He knows the Millennium Course well, having played there four times, but he is not sure whether or not that will work in his favour. The 43-year-old eight-handicapper said: “I don’t know whether it is an advantage or not.
“Having played there four times before, I know where the trouble lies, but maybe I play better when I don’t know where the danger is. I like to play as though I am fearless.”
The four mix in good company – this week the European Tour’s Portugal Masters is being held at nearby Oceanico Victoria.
