The Open Championship dream is still alive for two Fylde golfers.

St Annes player Philip Kelly and Henry Tomlinson (Royal Lytham and St Annes) made it through to local final qualifying for the Open Golf Championship.

Kelly carded a 72 at Moortown, which was enough for him to make it through to the next phase on July 2.

Kelly, who is now unattached but used to play under the banner of St Annes Old Links, is currently competing on the EuroPro circuit.

Tomlinson shot a 72 at Clitheroe to ensure a place in the July 2 shake-up for local final qualifying prior to the Championship proper at Muirfield.

Among those to miss out were two former footballers.

Colin Greenall, who used to play for Blackpool FC, shot 80 at Mere.

Jimmy Bullard, formerly of Hull and Wigan, missed out after a 78 at The London.

July 2’s final qualifying takes place at four courses: Dunbar, Gullane Number One, North Berwick and The Musselburgh, with only a precious few spots up for grabs at Muirfield.
