The Green Drive member came from behind to defeat his opponent, who won the competition in 2010 and 2012, on the picturesque Oceanico Old Course, in Vilamoura, Portugal, on Saturday.

Three down after the opening seven holes, 28-year-old Lavin looked like he was going to be up against it.

However, he reeled-off the next four holes with some fine play to take a one shot lead.

Although Boyes (29), who plays off six, pulled the scores level with five holes to go, 15-handicapper Lavin sealed victory - and the coveted trophy - at the 17th 2&1.

The pair had earlier reached the final by winning their respective semi-finals the day before at the Oceanico Laguna course.

Lavin had beaten Heron Reach's Anthony Berry, while Boyes got the better of Glen Edvidge, of North Shore.

The quartet had earlier won several rounds to take their places in Portugal for the prestigious competition, which is sponsored by Blacktax Taxis and the Airport Transfer Group.
