Golfers found the going tough on the opening day of the Lytham Trophy.

None of the early starters at Royal Lytham and St Annes managed to break the par of 70 in the wintery conditions.

The early pacesetters were Germany’s Raphael Geissler and Scottish goler Connor Syme, who both shot 72.

After the conclusion of the second round on Saturday, there is a halfway cut with 36 holes contested on Sunday.

Royal Lytham’s Henry Tomlinson struggled to an 11 over par 81 in the first round.

Irish golfer Annabel Wilson made the early running in the Fairhaven Trophy.
