Favourites England made a winning start to their campaign to win the Girls’ Home Internationals at St Annes Old Links Golf Club.

Bidding to take the title for the sixth time in a row, they defeated Wales in their opener by 7-2.

They won the foursomes 2-1 and followed it up by landing the singles 5-1.

Annabeal Dimmock was in particularly good form, taking maximum points.

She was the most emphatic singles winner, beating Georgia Lewis 5 and 4.

In the opening day’s other match, Scotland drew 3-3 with Ireland.

England suffered a setback in the Thursday morning foursomes, going down 2.5-0.5 to Scotland prior to the afternoon singles.

Ireland won the Thursday foursomes against Wales 2-1.

The competition concludes on Friday.
