THE start of the junior golfing season at Fairhaven was marked in the traditional way by the captains’ drive-in.
Despite having 100 pairs of eyes watching them on the tee, girls’ captain Eleni Cullen and boys’ captain Cameron Hay hit excellent drives straight down the middle of the fairway.
Before driving off they were presented with their captain badges by Hilda Holding, who was the lady captain in 2000, and congratulated by the club captain Paul Dixon and lady captain Olwyn Kingstree.
A match between Eleni’s team and Cameron’s team followed, and despite some wet and windy weather this did not dampen any spirits in a closely fought contest, which saw Eleni’s team win by a narrow margin.
Judging by our picture, there are plenty of young hopefuls at Fairhaven eager to get on to the course themselves.
