Garstang teenager Adam Stone was the star turn as Lancashire golfers began their defence of the Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League title in style.
They breezed to an emphatic 15-3 victory over Cumbria at gale-lashed Royal Birkdale.
Lancashire skipper Paul Williams singled out Stone for particular praise.
Stone teamed up in the foursomes with Henry Tomlinson, of Royal Lytham and St Annes.
They eclipsed Ulverston pair Craig Morrow and Andrew Edwards 3&1.
Then he dispatched Edwards 5&4 in the afternoon session.
Lancaster member Stone, who plays off scratch and had his first lesson as a five-year-old at Myerscough College, revealed that he recently quit playing football, rugby and cricket.
“I want to focus solely on golf,” said the Lancaster Royal Grammar School pupil, whowill miss the start of next season as he commence his studies in marketing at California’s East Bay State University.
Williams said of Stone’s effort: “He showed great maturity.”
