The latest addition to the Fylde coast athletics calendar, the Fleetwood Rotary 5 and 10K runs, was greeted by brilliant sunshine. The races took place along the Promenade, from Fleetwood to Rossall and back.
Popular Blackpool veteran Paul Muller, who runs for Horwich RMI, strolled to a comfortable victory in a time of 36mins, 44secs, with Sale Harrier Simon Jackson almost two and a half minutes behind in second place.
Garstang Road Runner Richard Jones took third in 39.49.
Another local runner, Ian Dawson of Thornton, finished sixth in 41.51
Red Rose Road Runner Debbie Kirkman won the ladies’ race and was 10th overall in a very respectable 43.24, closely followed by Lancaster’s Jayne Perry in 44.01.
The first three ladies, completed by Fleetwood’s Jill Wilson in 45.17, were all veterans aged over-40.
First home in the 5k was Ben Lewington of Liverpool in 18.31, with Thornton Running Club’s Andrew Fairbairn second, 32 seconds behind.
Lytham’s Oliver Hirsh was third and first veteran (over-45) in 19.34. Laura Doyle of Fleetwood was the first lady and eighth overall (23.41), followed by Lytham’s Joanna Kurp in 24.23.
