Gilks set for Scotland call-up
Scotland boss Craig Levein says he has approached Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks over a possible call-up.
Gilks was born in Rochdale but is eligible for Levein's squad because of a Scottish grandmother.
The Scotland boss sees Gilks as over for long-term injury victim Craig Gordon and Rangers sieeper Allan McGregor.
Levein said: "Gilks is one we became aware of a while ago and we have kept track of his progress.
"Obviously he was a key figure in Blackpool's promotion to the Barclays Premier League, and he is one I think we need to take a closer look at.
He comes highly recommended, is playing regularly for his club and the next logical step is for our goalkeeping coach to work closely with him."
Levein is due to name his squad today for the opening Euro 2012 qualifier away to Lithuania on Friday week.
The manager added: "We need to cast our net as wide as possible to make sure we have the strongest squad.
"If there are talented players able to represent Scotland, then we have a duty to do our homework and make sure we leave no stone unturned."
