Portsmouth’s Sonny Bradley bundled the ball over his own goal line to hand Fleetwood Town victory at Fratton Park.
The Pompey defender’s mistake, after Jamille Matt’s shot was blocked by David Sullivan, was enough to secure a fourth consecutive win for Graham Alexander’s men - probably their most high profile scalp yet.
Both sides struggled to create chances before the break but Fleetwood should have taken the lead shortly after, Conor McLaughlin’s cross making contact with Gareth Evans shin, the ball spinning wide.
Antoni Sarcevic had a shot turned over the bar as Fleetwood applied the pressure and their hard work was rewarded when Matt went clear to set up the only goal.
David Ball could have added a second for Fleetwood with a long-range effort.
But it was a tense end as Pompey looked for a way back, Fleetwood forced to defend in numbers as even keeper Sullivan came forward for a late corner, Fleetwood holding out.
