Fleetwood Town kept their promotion push on track with victory at Oxford.

Town dominated the first half, squandering a host of chances before finally breaking the deadlock through David Ball.

Nathan Pond should have done better with a free header from a Josh Morris cross.

Antoni Sarcevic then wasted a golden opportunity, a superb low cross from Charlie Taylor shanked sideways when it was easier to score.

But it was one way traffic and Town made pressure tell just after the half hour.

Sarcevic’s low corner was a test the Us weren’t equal to, David Ball with a simple finish, even allowed a slip as he tapped home at the back post.

Iain Hume could have made it two before the break, slipped in by Ball, he went one-on-one with Ryan Clarke but couldn’t finish, Town denied.

A second would come but Fleetwood would have to wait until after the break.

It was a neat move when it came, another set piece, Alan Goodall and Josh Morris laying a free kick short for Sarcevic who rifled it into the top right hand corner.

Oxford threw on Dave Kitson and James Constable and did find more posession.

But they couldn’t turn it into chances, Fleetwood seeing out the game comfortably.
