MEET Ian Holloway’s lucky charm for the play-offs... Dougal the poodle.

The Seasiders manager bought his new pet from a woman who lives near the Seasiders’ Squires Gate training ground.

And although the new addition to the family has been giving him sleepless nights, Holloway reckons it is well worth it. The Pool boss said: “My children have moved back to Bristol and taken all the pets with them, so my wife Kim and I have been feeling a bit lonely.

“We’ve owned dogs all our life and I thought, ‘Right, I’m getting another’. I saw an advert for some miniature poodles, so I rang the number and spoke to a woman who lives a stone’s throw from our training ground.

“As soon as we saw the dogs, there was no way we were going to leave without one – they were gorgeous.

“So now we’ve got a new member of the family. He’s called Dougal, after the dog from the Magic Roundabout.

“I’m hoping he’s going to be our lucky charm for the next few games!”

Having a puppy in the house does bring a few problems, though.

“He’s jet black, which is tricky because when it’s dark we haven’t a clue where he is. I keep tripping over him,” said the boss.

“And he’s not potty-trained yet, so we’ve got plastic sheets covering the entire house. It’s not pleasant seeing the kitchen floor in a morning!

“He’s also crying and howling a lot because he’s missing his mum, so that’s why I look shattered.

“But although it’s been a bit chaotic, it is brilliant. A house isn’t a home without a dog.”
