Fleetwood Town were in cruise control as they opened their pre-season account with a win at Northwich last night.

Town named two triallists and a different team in each half for the leg-stretcher against the nomadic Vics, who this season are making their home at Flixton in Greater Manchester.

Former Manchester City and Burnley defender Stephen Jordan started the first half for Town, showing his versatility playing first alongside Nathan Pond in the centre of Town’s back four before switching to the flanks.

That allowed new boy Liam Hogan to flex his muscles in a more central role, the former Halifax man impressive as Fleetwood limited opportunities for their hosts.

It was Jon Parkin who provided Fleetwood’s main threat. The big striker couldn’t quite find the mark with a trademark blast on the half-hour but he did find the net before the break.

Conor McLaughlin charged forward, his shot from 18 yards deflected off Parkin’s boot - Town ahead on 38 minutes.

After half-time it was all change for Town, former Crawley defender Pablo Mills joining the action.

An all new central midfield of Antoni Sarcevic and Stewart Murdoch looked lively, the latter showing some real strength and courage, not to mention a decent touch.

Down the right, Jamie Allen showed the pace and awareness which earned him a new Fleetwood Town deal, his clever run earning Town the throw which led to their second seven minutes after the restart.

In it came from the right flank, Jamille Matt unmarked in the middle, blasting high into the Northwich net.

A mistake from Sarcevic - his outstretched leg turning the ball into the path of Scott Harris - gave the hosts their chance.

Harris raced clear, the former Squires Gate man taking great glee in slotting the ball past second-half stopper Chris Maxwell.
