Fleetwood Town squandered big chances in front of goal as they recorded a second 0-0 draw in four days - this time away at Newport County.
Both sides created chances on a difficult surface, Lee Minshull sending a header just wide for the Exiles, Town’s Antoni Sarcevic put through by Jamille Matt but unable to find the target.
The pair would be guilty of missing chances again before the first 45 minutes were up, Sarcevic with a shot saved from just a few yards out, Matt unable to rifle home the follow up.
The second half brought renewed pressure from the home side, whose own play-off hopes hang in the balance.
Rene Howe’s effort was well blocked and Ryan Burge’s effort from outside the box was too high to trouble Chris Maxwell.
Town’s welsh keeper was, however, called into action to deal with Robbie Wilmott’s crashing drive.
The visitors found openings harder to come by, forced to soak up the pressure from Justin Edinburgh’s side.
A late corner gave hope for Town but Alexander’s men couldn’t grab that vital goal to end their four-match drought.
Fleetwood remain in the play-off positions on the back of their second clean sheet in two games but will be desperate for a victory to get their play-off push back on track.
A trip to Torquay on Saturday presents the perfect opportunity to do just that.
