The visitors competed well for much of the first half, but, lacking a key striker, they didn’t pose the threat they would have hoped.

Lytham had no shortage of first-half chances, though the excellent Sutherland kept them at bay until the closing moments of the first half.

Dan Pilling and Andy Ford were among the players who went close to increasing Lytham’s lead in the second half.

Josh Serghi scored the third in the closing minutes, racing on to Sam Mitchell’s through ball to finish with style.

Besides two-goal man of the match Price, Daniel Chase and Ollie Seers were also impressive for Lytham.

But are already relishing the rematch as manager George Young said: “I thought we took the game to them in the first half, which was fairly well balanced, but our keeper has kept us in it.

“We’re having a fantastic season but Lytham’s organisation was excellent. We’re looking forward to getting them back to Common Edge, though.”

Lytham boss Lee Mitchell said: “Their keeper made some fine saves but it was a convincing win.”
