Gate continue to wait for their first win of the season after being edged out in this North West Counties League thriller.
Padiham 5, Squires Gate 4
They led after just three minutes, as Scott Harries started brightly and won a corner which Jonathan Forbes got on the end of.
Padiham equalised on 20 minutes, when Neil Stansfield beat two defenders to score the first goal for the home side.
They took the lead on 34 minutes, when Joe Garvin cut inside to shoot under keeper Nathan Worrell.
Then Andrew Tinker’s unstoppable shot from 25 yards made it 3-1 four minutes later.
Gate came out strongly for the second half after Russ McKenna’s team-talk and goals by Chris Bennett within three minutes of the restart and on the hour made it 3-3.
But just as in the first half, the home side regrouped and piled on pressure to regain the lead on 65 minutes, when Joel Cummings put into his own net.
It was 5-3 a minute later, when the unmarked Ben Allen headed home a cross from the left at the far post.
Gate fought back but could not make further inroads until the 90th minute, when Peter Gwin got at the end of a corner from the right.
