PLAYMAKER Jamie Milligan is itching to return to Fleetwood Town’s starting line-up to mastermind a return to winning ways against Forest Green Rovers at Highbury on Saturday.

The deadly dead-ball exponent says his worrying recent knee injury is behind him and he is hopeful of playing a full part in Town’s bid for revenge over the club which defeated them in Gloucestershire only three weeks ago.

The evidence for a Milligan recall is compelling: the last two matches he started were the Highbury wins over Southport and Darlington over the festive season – Town’s only Blue Square Bet Premier wins at home since September.

Then came the knee injury, and although he was hardly missed in Town’s outstanding 5-2 win at Mansfield, Micky Mellon’s side have managed just two points from three games since.

Milligan has come off the bench against Hayes and Yeading on Saturday and played the final half-hour of Tuesday’s defeat at Kettering, and now the veteran feels ready for a full return to the fray.

“The knee felt good at Kettering,” said Milligan, “the best it has felt in a while and I hope to get a start on Saturday. I’ve been working hard in gym and building the muscle up.

While Milligan’s free-kick expertise can only be an asset for Town, he’s the first to admit that midfield creativity hasn’t been Town’s problem.

“We were creataing good chances but we’re not scoring at the minute,” Milligan said, “but I’m confident it will change. We can turn anything round with the players we have here.

“We battered Ketteringin the first half but just could not put the ball in the net. It was same as Hayes and Yeading at the weekend.

“But we are back in training today. We will work on the things that have not been good and get back to winning ways.”
