IT’S the perfect day for Fleetwood Town striker Magno Vieira to get his season back on track and show Wycombe Wanderers the error of their ways.
Today’s FA Cup first-round visitors to Highbury released the Brazilian after a single season in 2009, since when he has ended the past two seasons as top scorer at Ebbsfleet and Fleetwood respectively.
But this has been a season of struggle for Vieira, who has had to settle for a place on the bench in the three games since returning from a month-long hamstring injury.
And he expects to be among the substitutes again as Town chase that elusive first win against Football League opposition.
But Vieira realises that if he gets his chance this afternoon, there could be no better time to make his mark. The striker said: “I have trained hard all week and feel fit, but it will be hard for the gaffer to change a team playing so well.
“We are scoring goals and not conceding, so hopefully we take that into Saturday’s game.
As for the Chairboys, for whom Vieira scored twice in 14 appearances, he added: “We went up to League One that season and it was good to be part of a promoted squad, though I only played a small part.
“They are a very good team and will make it really hard for us ... but we can make it hard for them. We have a good chance but it will be tough.”
