FLEETWOOD Town’s hottest property - 34-goal striker Jamie Vardy - was set to sign for Leicester City today in a deal worth well over £1m and possibly as much as £1.7m.
Reports circulating on Twitter said that Vardy, whose goals spearheaded Fleetwood’s march to the Football League, was on the verge of signing for the Foxes.
It would be a record fee for a non-league player.
Fleetwood would not confirm the reports but The Gazette understands Vardy passed a medical at Leicester today.
Foxes’ boss Nigel Pearson has been on his trail for some time, along with a host of other clubs, including Blackpool,
Fleetwood are already lining up a number of signings following their elevation to the League and will struggle to fill the hole left if Vardy’s exit is sealed.
