AFC Fylde are hoping to complete the signing of former Wigan Athletic central defender Josh Langley in time for Saturday’s home clash in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League with Rushall Olympic.

The 21-year-old is a free agent after his release by the Latics.

He has had trials since then with the likes of Burton Albion and Wrexham as he looks to find a new club .

Meantime, Coasters’ manager Dave Challinor has stepped in to give him the chance of competitive action as he seeks to settle his future.

Challinor said: “Josh came through at Wigan as a scholar, but he has been released from his contract and needs to be playing.

“Josh knows us and our set-up because he was part of a young Wigan side that came to our ground to play a pre-season friendly.

“We hope that we will be in a position to finalise something before Saturday’s match.”

Challinor will need little reminding of the challenge facing his side from Rushall Olympic. He saw them against league leaders Chorley at the end of last month when they beat the pacesetters by 1-0.

Challinor said: “Rushall Olympic are very direct and a big, strong side - I saw their win over Chorley and we need to be on our guard.”

AFC Fylde go into the match in fourth place - they are six points adrift of leaders Chorley, who have played a game less.

Chorley suffered a setback to their title hopes earlier in the week when they lost 1-0 at home to FC United of Manchester in front of crowd of 2,000-plus.

Challinor said: “Chorley have had a bit of a sticky time lately and it has given everyone else a bit of hope.”

Luke Denton looks likely to return the squad following an ankle injury, though Matty Hughes could be ruled out with a hamstring strain.

Challinor said: “Though Luke didn’t train on Tuesday, it looks better than we

originally thought after spending some time in physio.

“It is looking less likely that Matty will play – you have to be careful with a hamstring strain and if something goes wrong you are possibly looking at a long time.

“I would say at this stage that it is 60-40 against him playing.”
