IT may sound all-Greek to some, but there is a one-off attraction at Highbury football ground, home of Fleetwood Town, at the end of the month.
Blackburn Rovers, newly relegated from the Premier League to the Championship, will take on Greek side AEK Athens on July 29.
The game takes place at Highbury because Blackburn’s Ewood Park pitch will not be ready in time, as improvements are being carried out.
The Rovers v AEK clash will kick off at 2pm, and it will be a pre-season taster featuring two big name sides, with admission prices just £10, and £5 for concessions.
Rovers are being sent 1,500 tickets. And Fleetwood officials are expecting a contingent of Greeks fans too, who have been allocated part of the main stand.
Meantime, pre-season training with the Football League newcomers has continued with a beach run – all six miles of it – for the Fleetwood players prior to the planned trip to Austria.
Skipper Stephen McNulty found it a rigorous exercise, but at the same time worthwhile.
He said: “It’s what pre-season is all about – it is not getting any easier, but it went well.
“The new lads have been a bit quiet – some of the lads already here are loose cannons – but they will get used to it and we have made them feel welcome.”
