Squires Gate are steaming ahead with plans for next season after weeks of uncertainty.

The School Road club finished second bottom of the league last season, which should have seen them relegated out of the top flight for the first time in eight years.

Although first division champions Formby will not be promoted due to inadequate facilities, the NWC confirmed that two teams will be promoted – Abbey Hey and West Didsbury and Chorlton, who finished second and third respectively.

However, plans restructure the Evo-Stik League above were approved this week, meaning Gate will stay where they are.

The Evo-Stik First Division North will now increase to 24 clubs, it all means Gate avoided the drop to maintain a 22-club Premier Division.

Gate chairman Stuart Hopwood said: “It’s been an uncertain spell but we can finally plan ahead now.”
