AFC FYLDE manager Kelham O’Hanlon is looking to replenish his squad with more new signings ahead of the new season after releasing defenders Ryan Elderton and Matt Lawlor.

O’Hanlon said: “Matt and Ryan both leave with our best wishes. They always gave 100 per cent in training and in games and they leave on good terms.

“I’m sure they will give their all at another club as that’s the type of characters they are. They have both been fantastic players to work with and have been great servants, but I want to freshen things up with the squad.”

Former Blackpool FC centre-half Lawlor was one of Fylde’s longest-serving players, making 110 appearances over the past three seasons, while former Fleetwood Town left-back Elderton made 89 appearances in two seasons.

Having signed keeper Rick Whiteside from Chester and striker Dave Swarbrick from Lancaster this summer, O’Hanlon aims to bring in more new faces for their Evo-Stik First Division North promotion bid – they were beaten play-off finalists last season.

Strikers Andy Bell and Kevin Townson have moved on.

n Fylde start their pre-season programme away to West Lancashire League club Longridge Town on Tuesday week (7.30pm).

Other Fylde friendlies so far confirmed are against Fleetwood Town (home, July 16), Southport (home, July 19), Barnoldswick Town (away, July 23), a Middlesbrough XI (home, July 27), Whitley Bay (away, July 30) and a Morecambe XI (home, August 2).
