AFC Fylde 4, Morecambe 0
RICHIE allen scored a second-half brace as a youthful Morecambe side were taught a footballing lesson at Kellamergh Park last night.
Fylde never looked troubled as they fielded new signing James Hayward and the former Blackburn and FC United of Manchester midfielder Gary Stopforth.
Michael Barnes controlled the left flank, while Joe Booth crossed dangerously crosses, though it was the visitors who had the first chance of note after 18 minutes, when James Short’s shot sailed over the bar.
Three minutes later, Shrimps keeper Shaun Routledge palmed away a lob into the box just before Fylde striker Dave Swarbrick could pounce, then Ricky Mercer headed the resulting corner inches over the bar.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 38th minute, when Paul Jarvis marked his return from injury with a strong run and curling shot from the edge of the area.
Routledge saved well but Swarbrick was well placed to fire in the rebound and give the Coasters a well earned half-time lead.
Allen was introduced for the second half and netted twice in a remarkable 15-minute cameo.
He scored in the 50th and 59th minutes but picked up a knock and was substituted immediately after his second goal – a skilful chip after Ben Waddington’s shot from outside the box had been blocked.
Morecambe made a number of substitutions and came back into the game as strikers Sean Breen and Alex Salmon and captain Joe McGee all had chances but Fylde keeper Rick Whiteside was never troubled.
The icing on the Fylde cake came three minutes from time, when Waddington crowned another top display by cutting in from the left and firing into the top right corner from 20 yards.
Fylde manager Kelham O’Hanlon said: “I was pleased with the whole performance. We scored some excellent goals and kept a clean sheet. I thought the new signings fitted in very well and it was a brilliant goal from Ben.”
The Coasters’ final pre-season friendly at home to Northern League club Guisborough Town on Saturday at 3pm, when admission will be reduced to £5 (£2 concessions, under-12s free).
