Fylde boss sets sights on tremendous treble

AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor is targeting a hat-trick with a difference this month.

Last Saturday’s home game against Salford was postponed but the journey to Kellamergh Park wasn’t wasted for Challinor, who conducted a training session and collected a second successive manager of the month award for Evo-Stik First Division North.

Two months unbeaten have taken the Coasters to the top of the table, and their manager would love nothing more than to keep that record going for a third month.

Challinor said, on collecting his award from league secretary Angie Firth: “The award is a reward for everyone’s hard work, from the staff and players. They have taken everything on board and we have picked up a decent run of results.

“Off the pitch, our preparations are very good and training is improving all the time. If we want to be successful we have to keep the run going.”

n SQUIRES Gate FC intend to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Richardson Cup triumph in style.

The non-league club lifted the trophy by beating Vickers 1-0 at Morecambe’s old Christie Park ground in April 1987.

The winning squad that day was: Rob Reeve, Duncan Brown, Mickey Rudd (player–manager), Rob Thomas, Martin Brook, Mickey Walker, Paul Arnold, Ken Luxton, Geoff Robinson, John Maguire, Steve Hornby, Graeme Warren, Tosh Shields, Mark Scarlett and Paul Bailey.

Club official John Maguire said: “Obviously any other players would be welcome as would all the committee members involved at the time.”

Further details are available from Maguire on 07881 767443.

n FYLDE coast clubs are again invited to join the Catforth & District Summer League (sponsored by Commercial Power) for its 2012 campaign. The FA-affiliated competition is scheduled to run between April 30 and August 3, and any interested teams chould contact league secretary Mark Hughes on (01772) 469512 or 07717 350761 by March 5.
