Goals from Jon Parkin and David Ball saw Fleetwood Town progress to the second round of the FA Cup at the expense of non-league Gloucester City.
Ball’s 10th minute strike got the better of Mike Green in the Tigers goal after early pressure from the home side.
Town, from there, should have put the game beyond their hosts, Antoni Sarcevic and Ball both wasting good chances to double the advantage,
Fleetwood were handed a great opportunity when defender Mike F Green brought down Ball in the box, Steven Schumacher missing the resulting penalty.
The hosts piled on the pressure after the penalty miss but despite some determined work from Tyler Weir were not able to find a way past Scott Davies.
The squandering of chances and sporadic pressure continued after the break, Sarcevic guilty again as he fired one into the side netting when it looked like he would score with a simple tap in at the back post.
At the other end Darren Edwards had Fleetwood hearts in mouths when he got on the end of a Matt Groves cross, Davies saving low to protect Fleetwood’s lead.
The Tigers had to go all out for victory but were caught out late on.
A long ball over the top sent in sub Jon Parkin who rounded Green in the Gloucester goal and slammed the ball home to book Fleetwood’s passage to round two.
