A Jon Parkin hat-trick fired Fleetwood back into the playoff chase against struggling Stanley.

Parkin’s volley, from a Junior Brown cross saw Fleetwood grab the lead on 24 minutes.

And they could have doubled their advantage soon after, former Blackpool keeper Paul Rachubka recovering well from a mix up to turn David Ball’s effort wide.

Parkin tested Rachubka again before the break - brushing aside the Stanley defence, his shot held by the stopper.

Town doubled their advantage after 63 minutes, Ball slipping a pass through the Stanley defence, Parkin slotting home.

And the big striker completed his second Lancashire derby hat-trick of the season 20 minutes from time, a deft touch from Shaun Beeley’s cross ending hopes of an Accrington comeback.

Boss Graham Alexander was delighted to see his side return to winning ways.

He said: “I thought we deserved it.

“We did the right things at the right times and scored a very good goal in the first half which settled the lads.

“The second half we started as we had finished the first.

“It was important we kept on the front foot and finished Accrington off.

“We’ve scored three good goals and deserved the three points.”
