Milligan is up for a fight

JAMIE Milligan has pledged he’ll never “spit out the dummy” at Fleetwood Town as he battles to regain his place.
The midfielder has not played since the FA Cup-tie against Blackpool almost six weeks ago and hasn’t even made the bench recently.
But Milligan is determined to play a big part in the promotion run-in and aims to be a member of Town’s first squad as a Football League club next season.
“I had a good run in the side earlier in the season, but now it’s my turn to be out of the team and you just have to get on with it,” said the former Blackpool player, who featured in Monday’s 9-1 win over Colne at Highbury.
The signings of Lee Fowler and Danny Rose have made the competition for midfield spots at Town even hotter, and Milligan hasn’t been helped by a niggling injury.
He explained: “I have been struggling with the inside of my knee but I’m fit again now.
“The medial ligament opens up from time to time and there’s nothing I can do about it. I just have to keep it as strong as I can.
“But I’m fighting fit now. I’ve been back in training for two or three weeks but I haven’t even been in the 16.”
But Milligan is well aware of his status as a senior player at the club and he will never be seen sulking at the training ground.
He added: “We have made the signings and it’s my job now to get back in the team.
“I can’t have any complaints about not being selected with the team going so well.
“I won’t spit the dummy out – I’ll just wait and take my chance when it comes.”
Even so, Milligan admits it would hurt not to play a part in the run-in and help write another thrilling chapter in the club’s history as they fight tooth and nail with Wrexham for the one automatic promotion spot to npower League Two.
“I think it’s going to be close and the game against Wrexham here at Easter could be massive,” he says, “but with the squad we have I see no reason why we should not stay in front.
“We have an excellent team spirit and we need to keep that going.”
Milligan will be 33 next season but he still welcomes another crack at the Football League.
“I’m up for another season at the higher level – that’s why I’m here. I’ve been through every league with Fleetwood and I wouldn’t want to miss out on this.”
