Having unveiled their £8.5m Poolfoot Farm training complex, Curwood says the club is investing in the future.

He said in a statement released on the club website: “Further investment came in the Under-21 group, and we are confident that we are moving Fleetwood Town forward with the necessary solid foundations.

“We ultimately need to be highly competitive at this level, while focusing on the development of our own assets.

“We needed a change of focus from a club which had challenged for promotion each season for over a decade.

“We had to ensure that we did things much smarter, with greater focus, strategy and a longer-term view on succession planning.

“We are at the early stages of creating a true philosophy at Fleetwood Town. Our new training ground has made a huge impact, both locally and in the wider football world.

“The facilities are truly outstanding and provide a magnificent environment for our players and management to work in.

“It has already gained a great reputation in a very short space of time with the local community and those further afield.

“There will follow further investment into our full academy, which it is hoped will commence at the start of the new season.

“Such significant investment will bring elite level development for players aged eight upwards for the first time in the club’s history. This in turn will allow for an even longer development focus with local players.

“In addition, we have made some interesting and beneficial partnerships and developments in Europe, China, Uzbekistan and India, to name but a few.

“We already have coaches in China, with others set to visit Uzbekistan and Iceland this summer.

“It continues to be an extremely exciting time for all who are connected to the club.”
