Milestone man Grant's '˜thank you' to Fleetwood

Bobby Grant hailed the work behind the scenes at Fleetwood Town after his mammoth 56-game season.

Grant racked up a half- century and celebrated his 100th game for the club in a season that saw Town finish fourth in League One.

The 26-year-old’s 100-game landmark came in the final game of the season at Highbury, though that goalless play-off draw with Bradford wasn’t enough to earn Town a Wembley date.

And having clocked up his highest-ever appearance total for a season – topping the 53 he made as a teenager for Accrington Stanley in 2009-10 – Grant praised head coach Uwe Rosler and the Town staff for keeping him going with their recovery protocols between matches.

Grant’s feat is even more impressive considering the ex-Blackpool man switched between striker and midfield roles.

He said: “To play as many games as I have, I can only thank the manager and all the staff for helping me.

“Youl Mawene (fitness coach) and Luke Bussey (head physio) played a massive part too because they kept me in the shape I am.”

Now Grant is looking forward to a well-earned rest before Rosler takes his first pre-season – unless the head coach is lured away from the Fylde coast after taking Town so close to promotion in an historic campaign.

After making his 100th appearance, Grant is looking forward to many more after penning a two-year contract extension.

He said: “The lads have earned a rest and I’m really proud to have made 100 appearances.

“We’re very disappointed we couldn’t make it to Wembley but we move on.

“Fourth in League One is a great achievement and we will get stronger together.”

With Grant signed up until 2019, the club was expected to release a retained list today.
