Chief executive Curwood says discussions are ongoing with Fleetwood's out of contract players

Following the departures of Shola Ameobi, Danny Andrew, Chris Maxwell and Antoni Sarcevic, uncertainty surrounds the future of several other players, including captain Nathan Pond.

The club has not issued a retained list and Curwood revealed some decisions are yet to be finalised.

He said: “We have been asked by fans why the club has delayed issuing a list of players who are leaving or staying . Unfortunately, there are still a number of matters to be concluded, with discussions ongoing.

“For example, Jamille Matt’s campaign with Plymouth Argyle still hasn’t ended, and we wish him well in Monday’s League Two Play-off final against Wimbledon.

“We are happy with the squad under contract. In previous years, however, we have had players whose salaries have had to be carried for a while due to our progression.

“The recruitment processes have been overhauled and continue to take shape, with significant focus across the UK and Europe. Our backroom staffing infrastructure continues to develop too, with slicker, more detailed planning and practises.”

Curwood said the club will eventually stage a presentation event at Poolfoot Farm in July, when fans can see player of the season Jimmy Ryan, young player of the year Ash Hunter and goal of the season winner Bobby Grant collect their awards.

He said: “Work continues at our training complex on a second full-size all-weather pitch as well as several small- sided pitches.

“Renovation work is also under way at Highbury and Poolfoot Farm, and further time is being spent improving drainage at our stadium.

“Such work unfortunately disrupted plans for our annual ‘party on the pitch’. We are still planning a fans’ event at Poolfoot Farm to coincide with the first-team squad returning ahead of their pre-season schedule.

Curwood says the club is optimistic about the future, with their six summer signings attracted by the new £8.5m training complex.

He said: “Further investment came in the Under-21 group, and we are confident that we are moving Fleetwood Town forward with the necessary solid foundations.”
