A Steven Schumacher hat-trick fired Fleetwood Town to the top of League Two.
The former Bury skipper put Graham Alexander’s men ahead from the penalty spot after just four minutes, Newport reduced to 10 men after Robbie Willmott handled on the line.
The visitors battled against the odds and could have equalised when Connor Washington got the better of Liam Hogan, rounding Scott Davies only to see his effort come back off the post.
Fleetwood doubled their lead three minutes after the break, Schumacher set up 30 yards out by Antoni Sarcevic, his shot unstoppable.
When Charlie Taylor was upeneded by Ryan Jackson, Schumacher added another from the spot.
Chris Zebroski pulled one back when the third penalty of the afternoon was awarded for Ryan Cresswell’s handball.
But Town sealed the victory with 13 minutes remaining, David Ball with a good run from the left, his low shot sneaking in.
