Graham Alexander was all set for the return of his players for pre-season training this morning.
Fleetwood’s stars are in two weeks earlier than previous years with the kick-off to the Football League being moved forward to August 3 this season.
Alexander’s men will start at home to relegation favourites Dagenham and Redbridge before a long trip to Plymouth the following weekend.
Five new faces reported for training this morning, and the boss says plans have been in place for a while
“The preparation has been in place for weeks now,” he said. “There are little bits and pieces we’ve arranged this week, but the bulk of the work ahead of the players returning has been done for weeks now.
“The first day is today, then lads will be in for their fitness tests.”
It’s the Town boss’ first full season as a manager, and to give his side the best possible chance he sacrificed his summer holidays.
He added: “The summer has gone really quick for me.
“It’s exciting now as we come to the start of pre-season, I can’t wait to get started.
“I know the players are raring to go.”
Among the new faces reporting to their Fylde Rugby Club training base today is Scottish midfielder Stewart Murdoch.
And Alexander can’t wait to work with the former Falkirk man.
“He’s a young central midfield player who’s played a lot of games,” he said.
“He’s powerful and can pass the ball, he’s a good modern day midfielder and we are really happy to add him to the squad.
“We had to compete with a couple of big clubs in Scotland, but he bought into what we wanted to do here.
“I’m looking forward to working with him.”
