Fleetwood Town battled to preserve their unbeaten record in League One - grinding out a 0-0 draw with Chesterfield.

Paul Cook’s Spireites, familiar foes for Fleetwood, made life hard for the home side, dominating the opening 45 minutes, Gary Roberts mercilessly exploiting the space left by Town’s midfield diamond.

He was the visitors’ driving force, setting up chances that Eoin Doyle and Jay O’Shea both squandered.

Town saw far too little of the ball before the break, something the rectified after - Graham Alexander’s men with more grit and steel about them.

There were half chances for Gareth Evans and David Ball, the latter getting in behind the visitors but taking too long to weigh up his options, the final pass to Josh Morris not what was needed.

Chesterfield could have nicked it right at the death, Armand Gnanduillet rattling one against the woodwork from six yards.

But Paul Cook’s men, the last team to score against Fleetwood in open play, couldn’t snatch the points, Town making it 10 points from a possible 12.
