David Ball scored his second goal of 2014 to ensure a perfect start to the year for Fleetwood Town.
Ball turned home Conor McLauglin’s cross with 15 minutes remaining to banish memories of last season’s defeat at Victoria Road and fire Town back into the promotion chase.
It should have been more comfortable given Fleetwood’s dominance of the first half, Jeff Hughes missing the pick of the chances having been sent in by Antoni Sarcevic.
But Town made heavy work of it, Zavon Hines a menance down the Daggers’ flanks.
Scott Doe should have done better with a free header and Nathan Pond produced a superb challenge to deny Rhys Murphy.
But one magic moment won it, Sarcevic unlocking Dagenham with his neat pass to McLaughlin, the full back feeding Ball whose shot squirmed in off the glove of Chris Lewington.
Dagenham thought they’d bagged an equaliser with a minute remaining, Murphy beating Davies but Fleetwood skipper Mark Roberts hooking the ball off the line.
