Matt Williams looks set for a shock exit from Bloomfield Road.
The Blackpool FC secretary is believed to have been approached by Shrewsbury Town with a view to becoming the League Two club’s chief executive.
Gazette columnist Williams has been at the club for more than 12 years and his departure will come as a major blow to Karl Oyston.
The chairman regarded Williams, who runs the club’s commercial and media departments, as his right-hand man.
Williams is yet to accept the Shrews post but it is understood he confirmed his impending departure to Pool staff on Saturday. His move adds to a massive summer of rebuilding for Oyston.
