Blackpool FC writer Matt Scrafton has drawn up a shortlist of nine players for you to vote from, which is as follows:

Tom Aldred

The centre back has been a rock at the heart of one of the league’s best defences, with only two sides able to boast better records than the Seasiders. Aldred, now in his third season with the club, also has two goals to his name.

Colin Daniel

The 29-year-old has proven his versatility by impressing at both left back and left wing. He has bagged four goals while also picking up five assists in a campaign where he has developed into one of Pool’s most dangerous attacking outlets.

Kelvin Mellor

The 26-year-old has put in a host of solid performances at right back but it has been his goalscoring exploits that have caught the eye. The former Plymouth man has netted seven times this campaign, with the stand out goal coming against Barnsley in Pool’s dramatic FA Cup win.

Blackpool’s much sought-after teenager has enjoyed a memorable campaign having bagged his first professional goal in the 2-0 win at Stevenage. The 19-year-old has since gone on to score five goals, one of which was the dramatic extra time winner against Barnsley in the FA Cup.

Jack Payne

The midfielder had a nightmare debut when he was sent off just five minutes after coming off the bench against Plymouth Argyle. But since then the 25-year-old has been a staple of Pool’s midfield and has caught the eye with his composure on the ball and his passing ability.

Brad Potts

The midfielder has taken his game to a whole other level by combining goals and assists. The former Carlisle man, still only 22, has scored 12 goals and nine assists to his name. Potts’ most memorable goal was the one he scored against his former side during Pool’s excellent 4-1 away win.

Clark Robertson

The 23-year-old, who has developed into a calm and assured centre back, has played a key role in a Blackpool defence that has kept 15 clean sheets this season. The Scot had a long wait for his first goal of the season, which finally came in Blackpool’s 3-0 win against Cheltenham at the weekend.

The goalkeeper has enjoyed a solid debut season at Bloomfield Road, keeping 11 clean sheets and making a number of key stops from penalties too. The former Scunthorpe and Oxford shot stopper has had plenty of competition from Dean Lyness but has returned to the side to make the number one jersey his own.

Kyle Vassell

The striker remains Pool’s top scorer with 13 goals in all competitions despite missing a month of action with a broken foot. Vassell enjoyed a purple patch around November time when he netted six times in six games, with braces coming against Cheltenham and Notts County.

Readers have until Friday, April 28 to cast their vote.

The Gazette’s player of the year will be announced at the end of season dinner at Bloomfield Road on Sunday, May 7.
